HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Love Google+! This "Auto Awesome" year-end video was automatically created by Google based on the photos and videos I uploaded throughout the year! I probably would have chosen a few different shots to include (or exclude) but a pretty neat surprise in my inbox regardless! What a GOOD year 2013 was but I certainly anticipate a BETTER year in 2014...as a matter of fact, the BEST EVER!! Happy New Year!!  ;-)

Wildcat Card Celebration!

Students that exemplified academic and behavior responsibility during the first quarter of the school year received their coveted Wildcat Card today! One of the privileges earned included a Wildcat Card celebration in the media center and learning commons where the students enjoyed some snacks and games, including light party games on the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360! Many of the students that came up short of earning their card this past nine weeks are already working hard to earn theirs by the end of the semester! That's what "Good, Better, Best!" is all about!

Our annual Career and Professional Dress to Impress Day was a huge success! Our guest speakers shared insights on their businesses and what our students should expect to encounter when they enter an increasingly competitive job market in the near future! And our students certainly impressed in their professional dress! There's no doubt that the future for our Wildcats looks just as great!

Wildcats Snare the Gators to Capture the Divisional Title!

The 8th Grade football team dominated the Dutchman Creek Gators on Wednesday by the score of 41-8 to capture the Western Divisional title, thus securing a spot in next weeks conference championship game! As has been the story all season, the Wildcats relied on a precision offense, a stingy defense, and a special teams that take pride in doing the little things well. The coaching staff credits the humility of the group of players that have taken their individual talents and have worked unselfishly towards their ultimate goal.

Sweet Voices of the Trail

Several young ladies of STMS will be a part of the Honors Choir. This is a prestigious honor for students from all 5 Rock Hill Middle Schools and York Middle. The students had to practice for several months before the audition in preparation. When the audition day came, they had to sing in front of guest judges to attain their spot. The group will now practice diligently individually and as a group with Ms. Johnson until February when they will practice together. The group will perform for the community with guest directors at the end of February 2014. Congratulations on a job well done and best wishes for a continued success!

Ambassadors and Beta Club Light the Night

Thirty-eight Saluda Trail Ambassadors and Beta Club members, along with staff and parents, lit up the sky with their red and white balloons as they walked to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society last Thursday. They even had the pleasure of walking with a parent and a former Wildcat who are both survivors! Members found ways to raise almost $350.00 dollars to donate to the cause by helping out at home and the community as well as organizing a school bake sale. Students really came together to support the cause. On Thursday, the two groups came out for dinner at CiCi's Pizza and walked over to Cherry Park for the Light the Night Walk. It was a fun event for a worthy cause!

Prepping for the PSAT

If you signed up for the PSAT, the testing day is almost here! You all should have your PSAT practice booklet and should have attended practice sessions this week for tips and tricks on how to attack the different types of questions on the test. Now, you should continue to spend some time doing the practice test in your booklet before the test date. Get even more helpful hints from Ms. White's website at:
http://jgwhite.pbworks.com/w/page/69872267/PSAT

Last Minute Advice:
  • Get a good night's sleep the night before the test.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast on Wednesday morning.
  • You WILL come across questions you don't know. Don't get stuck, just skip these questions and come back to them if you have time.
  • Pace yourself. This is a timed test, so don't spend too much time on any question.
  • Don't stress, just do your best!
Test Day! The PSAT will be on Wednesday, October 16. You should check in with your homebase teacher and report to the auditorium by 8:45 on Wednesday morning. You should bring 2 #2 pencils and your jacket with you. All of the other testing materials, including a calculator, will be provided.

Happy Testing!
